User Reviews about Sony NVU83T 4.8-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator
I was pleased with my purchase and it was as described and arrived in a timely manner. -- PortableGPS
I just purchased a NAVU83T. I got a excellent price on the unit. I read all the reviews and decided to purchase the unit on a leap of faith.
I upgraded it's current software to ver 3.2 with the navutool; downloaded from Sony. The unit has improved graphics, improved volume control and now shows a photo slideshow. The linking up with a cell phone was easy to do and works like a charm. Now the map has icons for the gas stations etc... We are going to use it for the first time on a trip next weekend. Maps are 2007.
I love the way the NVU83T looks. The wide screen and double display at intersections works great. 4 stars to Sony!
Sony has said that they are going to improve on all the units that have been sold. They have a design team placing the same GPS software in the PSP units. Sony has proved to be always innovative in their products and designs ;)

This is a great GPS. I bought a refurbished one and compared it side by side with my dealer installed Toyota Prius GPS and found it really matching up with the > $1,000 Toyota GPS system, plus the convenience of bringing it to my desk and connecting with computer via USB to manage multiple destinations, especially when planning a long trip; and even while I'm searching the Google map.
The 4.8" screen is the same width as my Toyota GPS but 1" shorter. However it offers the same resolution and accuracy. The unit is quite thin and light weighted, easy to carry with me in my bag. The cradle works very well on dashboard so as to keep it in a handy distance.
The current model sold by Sony, either new or refurbished, comes with V3.0 firmware. Re-routing calculation speed is about 0.5 sec slower than Toyota's.
One thing I like about the Sony GPS compare with Toyota's is that you can still operate the system (changing to new destination) while car is moving. Toyota's GPS will lock up and no changing is possible unless the car comes to complete stop, which is good in concern of safety, but lack of consideration of the need that the driver assistant can help to operate the GPS without any driving safety concern.
This is definitely a great GPS for the price.
