I bought the Gisteq Photo Tracker Lite to replace my Geomtr, (the Geometr has a notoriously bad connector... mine too) for my D700. The Gisteq works pretty well, but only after a few gyrations with the software for my Mac. You'll need to get the latest driver and so on, but I used the device on a hike in Big Sur, timed my camera to the UMT and sure enough, it works. It makes a great Google Earth map to share after you get a Google API. I'm trying to get the pix that I've put GPS data on (by running it thru the Gisteq software) back into iPhoto, where they came from originally, so I can use iPhoto's mapping feature. Haven't figured that out yet.

It's also a useful standalone GPS device anyway, so that's handy for general usage. Be careful: The top cover popped off once where the clip is during a hike and I did hear it fall off, instead of trekking along and leaving it behind. I now have a rubber band around it just for safety's sake.

So I give this a recommendation with a small caution about Mac drivers, etc., which has been resolved and works well. -- Gisteq Nikon and Mac user
I've been using GiSTEQ's PhotoTrackr Lite for more than one year. It is small, convenient, and lasts for about 10 hours or so. The GPS receiver works perfectly out in the great wide open (even on cloudy days), but it is a little sensitive to other obstacles (e.g., if it is inside a train car or vehicle, it really needs to be near a window to pick up a good signal).

I use GiSTEQ's software to read the data off the device and export it to GPX format. The software interface is clunky (it requires several clicks to export each track file to gpx and you cannot do more than one at a time) but it works. I use a Lightroom plugin by Jeffrey Friedl to geoencode my photos after extracting the GPX files (so I don't use GiSTEQ's software for anything but exporting those GPX files).

Unfortunately, I'd have a hard time recommending this unit to a friend because the build quality of the case is poor. It is made with cheap plastic that is easily chipped or broken - and once this happens, the battery compartment won't stay closed and thus the unit is not useful. Thankfully, if you already have one of these you can buy a replacement case from EBay for $10 including shipping (that's what I ended up doing to fix mine - GiSTEQ doesn't directly sell the replacement cases).

On a positive note, GiSTEQ's support team is pretty good about responding to each of the e-mails I've sent them. -- Good GPS logger, poor case
The software instalations are not very user-friendly. The main problem is with the Google mapping API. However, once installed, it works fine and, I'm sure, will be very useful. -- Good once installed
