User Reviews about Garmin nüvi 850 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator(Factory Refurbished - Silver)
We got this for my dad for christmas, and he was really excited for it but never really used it. I have used it a few times, and he uses it alot now. it is pretty simple to use. it has some features which are kind of useless. It has for example a voice command which requires you to memorize numerous commands, and therefore you probably won't use it. It is a good device don't get me wrong, but i would buy a cheaper one, and lose some of the unessential features. -- good
I have purchased 3 GPS units in the past & this is the 1st one that i WONT be returning. Why? because this one actually works!
This Garmin is good to go right out of the box...it WILL guide you right where you need to be....not a block or two away.
This GPS has a workable voice command system, unlike others i have tried....& i like having the added option of voice interaction.
This unit is very user friendly. Simple, intuitive, easy....& bristling with POI's
It is not without fault though....the volume is strangely inadequate. But i can live with that.
Bluetooth connectivity would have been nice. I have yet to try the mp3 player that ports into the car radio via an fm transmitter....this may solve the volume issue as the directions are likely ported through as well.
While this unit is not perfect....it is pretty close, & the price is great! likely the best bang for your GPS buck [ i bought a factory refurbished unit ]
So far so good....this unit has performed flawlessly & it does a good job of selecting the most direct route, as well as recalculating a route if you miss a turn.
This GPS is a winner ! meaning it has won my respect, trust & a prime spot on my dash.
UPDATE I put this to a test the other day....i had to go a place i had never been to before in EBF Egypt .....i programmed in the address & faithfully followed the arrow through winding twisting gnarly back country roads ... until i reached my destination ..sweeeet. Then repeated the process to extricate myself from that hellhole ... :) .... Thank God & Garmin for this GPS ! It made what would have been a stress filled ride into a worry free glide...i had fun just driving & taking in the sights instead of worrying about where i was ect ect.
Yeah, it's a keeper. -- Near perfect
I bought this GPS for myself because the price was right and my present GPS was a distraction to manipulate while I was driving. My wife never would use a GPS because she found them to be too complicated/cumbersome to use. After installing the Garmin nuvi 850 my wife and I went for a rode trip. I was having some trouble getting the GPS to understand my voice so my wife spoke the locations and instructions to the voice recognition enabled GPS. It did exactly what she said on the first try. Needless to say, this is now my wife's GPS and she's happy to use it. p.s. I bought a Garmin nuvi 855 two weeks later for myself!:0) -- Some kind of beautiful!
Having voice recognition is great. Bought myself one a few months ago, bought this one for my folks because it is so easy to use. -- Voice recognition is helpful
